Did India Lift a Fake World Cup Trophy?

According to Internet Media:   Where was the original World Cup trophy during the presentation ceremony of the World Cup?

After the huge euphoria on India's winning the World Cup comes a shocker. When India was given the World Cup, the original perhaps was in lock and key with the Customs department, according to report.

And if that report is true, this has never happened in the 36-year history of the cricket World Cup.

Where was the real trophy then? The original trophy was seized by the Mumbai Customs on its arrival from Colombo after the Sri Lanka- New Zealand semifinals on March 29.

This is now a full-fledged war of credibility between the ICC and the Customs department.

The real trophy, valued at about approximately Rs 56 lakh in money terms is priceless for any cricket lover.

And Customs officials claim, ICC was not ready to pay up approximately Rs 22 lakh as Customs duty, arguing that the trophy had Zero Commercial value.

Indian media claims World Cup trophy fake, ICC rejects allegations

According to Internet Media:   Indian media on Monday claimed the Cricket World Cup trophy that Indian captain MS Dhoni and his teammates received was a fake. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has, however, rejected the allegation.

“The ICC on Monday rejected reports that the World Cup with the Indian team is a replica and maintained that it is the original trophy after controversy broke out over news that that it was a fake that was presented to the team on Saturday,” reported the Times of India.

“Several former cricketers expressed dismay over the alleged goofup by the ICC and the BCCI,” it reported.

This is considered the first time in the 36 years of the cricket World Cup that a replica has been handed to the winning team..
